  • Bye week should be more flexible
When your franchise quarterback is out for an undetermined amount of time, and your backup has started zero games in the CFL, it might be time to consider changing some bye-week vacation plans. When you have lost five of your last six games and you're sitting alone in the bottom of your...

Injured Drew Willy may not be ready to start after the Bombers return from their bye week, the club said on Monday. After injuring his throwing shoulder in Saturday's loss to the B.C. Lions, Willy's status for the Sept. 27 game against the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats is "questionable." The

  • Harris's '250 yards' boast a small distraction
VANCOUVER -- Conventional wisdom coming into the Winnipeg Blue Bombers game Saturday night against the B.C. Lions was B.C. running back Andrew Harris had made a big mistake by suggesting earlier in the week his team could rush for 250 yards against the Bombers. Harris's boast, went the thinking,
  • Backup Brohm will be ready
VANCOUVER -- In a weird CFL season that is chewing up starting quarterbacks and increasingly looking like the team with the best backup man will prevail, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers may be about to find out how theirs measures up. Even as injured starter Drew Willy was being examined by doctors in
  • Gut-check time for Bombers
VANCOUVER -- His team had just lost their third straight, fifth in their last six and, oh yeah, their starting quarterback. And so there was no point, really, in beating around the bush with the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers late Saturday night. Because amid all the chaff of a once
  • QB Willy's injury to be examined by doctors
VANCOUVER -- Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Drew Willy will be examined by doctors in Winnipeg on Sunday as the club attempts to determine the extent of an injury Willy sustained to his right throwing shoulder in a 26-9 Bombers loss to the B.C. Lions here at BC Place Saturday night. Bombers
  • Keys to the game
KEY PLAY QB Drew Willy left the game and didn't return after sustaining an apparent right shoulder injury when he was tackled by B.C's Khreem Smith late in the first half. KEY PLAYER There's no one more important to the Bombers' fortunes than Drew Willy and the uncertainty about his

ñº OFFENCE Lions QB Kevin Glenn didn't do anything particularly well, but he didn't hurt his team either. And on a night when the Bombers had just 112 yards offence in the first half and lost their starting quarterback to injury, Glenn's careful stewardship of the Lions offence was good enough
  • Thank god for bye weeks
VANCOUVER -- The good news is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers held the B.C. Lions to under 250 yards rushing at BC Place Saturday night. And that's about it for good news, if you're a Bombers fan. The Bombers lost both the game and their starting quarterback Saturday night, losing 26-9 to the Lions
The Bomber Beat. It's one-stop shopping for all things Blue and Gold.
  • Bombers 23, Lions 6
VANCOUVER — The Bombers have even more believers this morning after last night’s convincing win over the B.C. Lions on their own turf. They weren’t supposed to beat the high-flying Leos, but that’s exactly what they did thanks to Gary Etcheverry’s defensive game plan and Lirim Hajrullahu’s leg. Etcheverry, the veteran defensive co-ordinator, took Lions […]
  • Eskimos 26, Bombers 3
A few thoughts after Edmonton hammered Winnipeg in the battle of the unbeatens: • I re-watched every Winnipeg offensive play when I got home, and the offensive line didn’t play as bad as it originally appeared. Here are a few notes: - On a lot of the plays quarterback Drew Willy clearly didn’t have anywhere […]

  • Bombers overnight report, June 3
Two days are in the books at Bomber camp, so it’s time to start cutting players. Just kidding. Sort of. Four practices are not enough for the players to prove to the coaches that they can play in the league, but you can bet the coaches can already envision what the roster will look like […]

Here is what the CFLPA released to the media a few minutes ago … CFLPA Letter to the Fans I want to start by saying how disappointed I am in the CFL’s decision to walk away from these very crucial negotiations. The unfortunate ones caught in the middle are you, the fans. We, the players, […]
  • Bombers mini-camp, Day 2
BRADENTON, Fla. — The second day of Bombers mini-camp is in the books, and some players are starting to stake their claim on training camp spots. • Bombers mini-camp, Day 1
BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bombers kicked off a new era on a couple of fronts Sunday with the first two practices of their three-day mini-camp. • Jets 2, Coyotes 1 (SO)
PHOENIX — It’s amazing how one shootout goal can change the feeling of an entire road trip. The only reason the Jets were giddy in the dressing room after tonight’s 2-1 shootout win over Phoenix was because Andrew Ladd’s shootout attempt bounced off the post, off Thomas Greiss and into the net. If that wasn’t […]
