  • Burke keeps mum on which starting jobs still to...
Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke said Tuesday afternoon he has already informed 27 players that they have won a roster spot on the 2013 Winnipeg Blue Bombers. With just one pre-season game under his club's belt and one more still to play -- on Thursday in Guelph, versus the Hamilton...
  • Forewarned is forearmed, Blue fans
THEY will have the familiar 'W' on their helmets and be nattily attired, as per usual, in blue and gold. But the team the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are bringing to Guelph this week for the final preseason contest will hardly resemble the club suiting up for the opener on June 27. So, be forewarned,
  • Blue offence must make teams pay for blitzing Buck
Sometimes when you think -- or even know -- something is about to happen, a part of you remains in denial until it hits you in the face. If the first Bombers exhibition game gave us any insight into what lies ahead, it is that the season for "Buck Hunting" will officially run from June 27 until
  • QB Goltz plays game of thrones
Justin Goltz knows how this game of thrones works. One day a guy is considered the heir apparent, the next he has been shoved aside by a new king in waiting. So you can understand the frustration of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback last week when he threw just two passes -- completing both
  • Burke reaches out to his veterans
Statement games are usually events that become prominent on players' resumes. For coaches, there are more wide-ranging opportunities to create highlights and turning points and to have course-changing influence and impact. Was Monday such a day for Winnipeg Blue Bombers' head coach Tim
  • Mack, Burke give each other room to do their...
The give and take between Joe Mack and Tim Burke is perhaps the most important thing the Blue Bombers have going, and with each day it moves toward a more productive place. GM and head coach don't have to like one another, although in this case they do, but they need to respect the other and
  • Bombers leaving veterans at home for game against Ticats
They will be wearing Winnipeg Blue Bomber jerseys and helmets, but the team Tim Burke is bringing to Guelph this week for the final preseason contest will hardly resemble the club suiting up for the opener on June 27th. So, consider this warning from the Bomber head coach: “We could get
  • Blue Bombers Notebook

  • For Hef, the play's the thing
Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke claimed ownership of Saturday's decision to release two-time CFL all-star defensive back Jonathan Hefney. "Ultimately the decision to release somebody is my decision," Burke said Sunday. "I did it in conjunction with the defensive co-ordinator (Casey
  • Hefney decision is mine: Burke
WINNIPEG — Winnipeg Blue Bombers coach Tim Burke took ownership of Saturday’s decision to release two-time CFL all-star defensive back Jonathan Hefney. “Ultimately the decision to release somebody is my decision,” Burke told reporters early this afternoon, the first
The Bomber Beat. It's one-stop shopping for all things Blue and Gold.
  • Burke tells Blue Bomber vets to set the tone
Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Tim Burke wants his vets thinking about the days leading up to June 27 and his inexperienced players thinking about trying to show that they belong on Thursday night in their CFL pre-season finale against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Burke called his vets to lead by example and start the process [...]
  • Burke takes a stand on Hefney
First of all, Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there. Hope you’ve enjoyed an excellent day. There was plenty of buzz around Investors Group Field, with the Manitoba Marathon finishing up next door at University Stadium. As you can imagine, most of the questions this afternoon revolved around the release of veteran DB [...]
  • Argos 24, Bombers 6
The Bombers looked a lot like the team that played last year at Canad Inns Stadium. They couldn’t get anything going on offence, they got rolled over on defence, and their special teams were anything but. It is the pre-season, however, so the 24-6 loss doesn’t mean much in the big picture. It really doesn’t. [...]
  • First game in the books
The Bombers got smoked 24-6 by the Boatmen tonight in the first football game at Investors Group Field. Doesn’t mean much, though. Sure, they got whacked by a bunch of Argo no-names, but it’s the first pre-season game. It means squat. Check back later tonight or tomorrow for some post-game thoughts. Time to leave the [...]
  • The first game is here/Hefney follow
Wednesday was a fairly eventful day in Bomberville, as the team called a morning press conference for GM Joe Mack to discuss Jonathan Hefney’s arrest for marijuana possession. Mack said Hefney told the team brass he is innocent and that it should be resolved soon. Mack was a little light on details when it came [...]
  • Is this the end for Jonathan Hefney?
News broke late Monday afternoon that Bombers defensive back Jonathan Hefney was charged with marijuana possession in South Carolina in the early hours of May 31, just two days before he reported to Bombers training camp. Now, marijuana possession in the grand scheme of things is not a major offence. In fact, Hefney got a [...]
  • What have we learned about the Bombers?
Training camp is a week old, so it’s time to look back and determine what we know about the Bombers so far. Let’s begin … • We’ve learned that if Tim Burke wants to get the attention of his players, he has no problem doing so through the media. He said during one of his [...]
  • The kid can play
Bombers head coach Tim Burke dropped the most interesting news of Saturday during his media availability when he said Winnipeg Rifles receivers Brett Carter was “fourth or fifth” on the non-import receiver depth chart. That’s fairly significant when you consider he doesn’t even have a contract and was supposed to take part in camp just [...]
  • Dog days of Bombers camp
Day 6 of Bomber training camp has come and gone, which means it’s time to either play a game or cut someone! Only four more days until the Bombers host the Argos in the first pre-season game for both squads. Let’s get right to the news and notes from a sunny Friday at Investors Group [...]
  • Things return to normal in Bomber-land
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were back to two-a-day workouts on Thursday at Investors Group Field but that didn’t mean there were twice as many fights. After two separate skirmishes on Wednesday — one that included a couple of right hands from DB Alex Suber and another that featured a pair of friends and receivers jostling [...]
