Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld is hurt. Again. Neufeld -- who has missed seven games this season with a calf injury -- re-hurt his leg during practice at Investors Group Field this morning, putting in doubt the club’s plans to see Neufeld finally return to the...
  • Willy ready to lead Blue into battle
Even better than how Drew Willy looked in practice, head coach Mike O'Shea thought, is what the Bombers pivot said to him after throwing a few bombs. "He said he'd be fine," O'Shea said, after running his team through their paces Tuesday. It was a short 'n' sweet chat for the coach, not much to
  • Drew Willy back at practice, cheering up Coach O'Shea
Even better than how Drew Willy looked in Tuesday’s practice, head coach Mike O’Shea said, was what the Bombers’ starting pivot said. He told the coach that he’d be just fine. That was music enough to O’Shea’s ears, after Willy missed a week with a hand

  • Willy can throw, so Willy will go
There may be a fascination with Robert Marve -- just as there was with Brian Brohm a week ago -- but the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will turn the offensive controls back to the man who has led them to all six of their wins this season. Drew Willy tested his hand during a throwing session Monday and,
  • It's show-and-sell time for Bomber QBs
With only two games remaining, and the post-season seemingly an impossibility, what can the Blue Bombers accomplish as they play out their regular-season schedule? They could try to develop and advertise a possible position of strength and depth, and use it to address a glaring weakness. In the

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback depth chart will be juggled again this week for Saturday’s matchup against the B.C. Lions. The Bombers will turn the controls of the offence back to Drew Willy – who had started 15 of the first 16 games before a hand injury kept him from last

  • Slippery Marve best QB for Blue's awful O-line
If you're going to force your quarterback to play behind an offensive line that has him running for his life all the time, perhaps it's not the worst idea to play a quarterback who is adept at running for his life. Winnipeg Blue Bombers third-stringer Robert Marve did a lot of things right in a
  • Bombers don't stand a chance
Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld once infamously said: "You go to war with the army you have -- not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time." The problem for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this season -- and it was never more evident than in a 33-23 loss to the Calgary

  • Bombers 23, Lions 6
VANCOUVER — The Bombers have even more believers this morning after last night’s convincing win over the B.C. Lions on their own turf. They weren’t supposed to beat the high-flying Leos, but that’s exactly what they did thanks to Gary Etcheverry’s defensive game plan and Lirim Hajrullahu’s leg. Etcheverry, the veteran defensive co-ordinator, took Lions […]
  • Eskimos 26, Bombers 3
A few thoughts after Edmonton hammered Winnipeg in the battle of the unbeatens: • I re-watched every Winnipeg offensive play when I got home, and the offensive line didn’t play as bad as it originally appeared. Here are a few notes: - On a lot of the plays quarterback Drew Willy clearly didn’t have anywhere […]

  • Bombers overnight report, June 3
Two days are in the books at Bomber camp, so it’s time to start cutting players. Just kidding. Sort of. Four practices are not enough for the players to prove to the coaches that they can play in the league, but you can bet the coaches can already envision what the roster will look like […]

  • Bombers mini-camp, Day 2
BRADENTON, Fla. — The second day of Bombers mini-camp is in the books, and some players are starting to stake their claim on training camp spots. • Bombers mini-camp, Day 1
BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bombers kicked off a new era on a couple of fronts Sunday with the first two practices of their three-day mini-camp. It was the first official workout for new starting quarterback Drew Willy, and it was also the first session for new head coach Mike O’Shea. Neither offered up much in […]
  • Jets 2, Coyotes 1 (SO)
PHOENIX — It’s amazing how one shootout goal can change the feeling of an entire road trip. The only reason the Jets were giddy in the dressing room after tonight’s 2-1 shootout win over Phoenix was because Andrew Ladd’s shootout attempt bounced off the post, off Thomas Greiss and into the net. If that wasn’t […]

THIS STORY ORIGINALLY RAN IN THE WINNIPEG SUN ON OCT. 10, 2011 … Korey Banks is having a superb season on the football field. The B.C.
