TRENDSETTING Mike O'Shea issued a mea culpa on Thursday. He hasn't done a whole lot wrong in his rookie season as Winnipeg's head coach but has determined he should have thrown the challenge flag when receiver Aaron Kelly was prematurely bullied away from a ball in a loss a week ago Tuesday in

  • Brink at controls of Als' O for now
STILL trying to sort out what will happen A.C. -- after Calvillo -- the Montreal Alouettes will turn to former Bombers quarterback Alex Brink to lead them into tonight's CFL game against his former team at Investors Group Field. Montreal is off to a terrible 1-6 start to the CFL season and...
  • Bombers sending too many visitors home with victories...
For all the quirks -- and they're myriad -- of this 2014 Winnipeg Blue Bombers team, perhaps the quirkiest is that a team that plays in a new state-of-the-art football stadium in front of large and loud crowds has a better record on the road this season than they do at home. Again. The Bombers
  • Despite consecutive losses, Bombers don't see Als contest as...
Back-to-back losses hardly qualify as a crisis, at least not in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' quarters. So quizzed on Thursday about tonight's CFL game against the Montreal Alouettes at Investors Group Field, the Bombers carried on like it's just business as usual. "This idea of must-win is
  • Tackling the Alouettes
For all the headlines and hope quarterback Drew Willy has brought to Winnipeg and its long-suffering Blue Bombers faithful, it's the Blue and Gold's defence, it could be argued, that has been the team's most consistent element in 2014. The second of the team's recent consecutive defeats,

  • Blue's commander-in-chief taking setbacks in stride
He's shown a flair for keeping his head while others around him are losing theirs, orchestrating three late fourth-quarter come-from-behind victories in his team's first eight games. • Bombers 23, Lions 6
VANCOUVER — The Bombers have even more believers this morning after last night’s convincing win over the B.C. Lions on their own turf. They weren’t supposed to beat the high-flying Leos, but that’s exactly what they did thanks to Gary Etcheverry’s defensive game plan and Lirim Hajrullahu’s leg. Etcheverry, the veteran defensive co-ordinator, took Lions […]

A few thoughts after Edmonton hammered Winnipeg in the battle of the unbeatens: • I re-watched every Winnipeg offensive play when I got home, and the offensive line didn’t play as bad as it originally appeared. Here are a few notes: - On a lot of the plays quarterback Drew Willy clearly didn’t have anywhere […]

Two days are in the books at Bomber camp, so it’s time to start cutting players. Just kidding. Sort of. Four practices are not enough for the players to prove to the coaches that they can play in the league, but you can bet the coaches can already envision what the roster will look like […]

  • Jets 2, Coyotes 1 (SO)
PHOENIX — It’s amazing how one shootout goal can change the feeling of an entire road trip. The only reason the Jets were giddy in the dressing room after tonight’s 2-1 shootout win over Phoenix was because Andrew Ladd’s shootout attempt bounced off the post, off Thomas Greiss and into the net. If that wasn’t […]
